This is the Sunday that changed the World…..this is the day that something happened to a group of about 100 varied men and women, who went from a scattered beaten rabble to a new World wide religion within the space of a few decades. Their message was known from Spain to Ethiopia, from Britain to the Rhine, from India to China.
Despite the apparent death of their Leader on a Roman cross, their message changed the direction of the World, altered the thinking of slaves, princes, merchants and soldiers alike. Men and women, Jew or Gentile, this message changed how the World thought and shaped Western society for over 1400 years. It still drives and orders the lives of mutiple millions on this planet in all countries and continents. In all continents except the European one, it is growing faster than at any previous time in history.
Despite the antagonistic nature of our own western culture towards the ideas of Pentecost 10% of Scots are still active and involved in regular worship, with perhaps another 10-15% linked to the church by membership. This is the largest group membership in Scotland and yet we have almost no public access to TV, the media and often when traditional and mainstream views are portrayed they are usually in the negative – modern evangelical Christianity might as well not exist as far as Scottish media is concerned….people are continually surprised that there is a young, live, passionate Faith alive and well….and growing.
All of this comes out of Pentecost – when the Word of Jesus dead and risen broke free. You may not believe, but you cant pretend it didnt happen – you can only decide what to do with the reality…..Pentecost changed the World then, and continues to change lives, communities and countries now…..and its changing people nearer to you than you would think!
